Abiqua Wind Vineyard is a husband and wife owned small estate vineyard and bonded winery nestled in the cascade foothills in Scotts Mills, OR. The vines are over 3 decades old, dry farmed, own-rooted with the cuttings purchased directly from the pioneers of the Oregon wine industry.
Hands-on wine growing is the secret… their footprints in the vineyard and fingerprints on the vines combined with a gentle touch in the cellar assure that the wines exceed your expectations.
Meet Pete & Marcia
pete marcia High school sweethearts, owners Pete and Marcia Buffington discovered a late-in-life passion for growing and making wine. Prior to that discovery, they raised their children on the Southwestern Oregon family cattle and sheep ranch and Pete plied the nearby ocean waters as a commercial fisherman. Seeking a new life adventure and on the hunt for an extraordinary view and grapevines to farm, they discovered the lovely and now Abiqua Wind Vineyard on a sundrenched south slope overlooking the Willamette Valley. The rest is history...

Pete, known for boundless energy, creativity, a thirst for challenge all fueled by an aspiration to create wines that bring happiness and enjoyment to others. Marcia offers a long history of hard work and lifelong loving support of her husband. They enjoy wine for its ability to both bring people together and elevate a dining experience.

Why Abiqua Wind?
vineyard fog Situated along the Abiqua Creek, a tributary to Pudding River and home of the beautiful Abiqua Falls, it was certain the vineyard name must incorporate the spirit of the Abiqua and its beautiful watershed. During their first spring pruning, Marcia, while hunkered over the Pinot Noir vines in a sideways hailstorm with numb hands and through chattering teeth declared, “Wind needs be part of the name.” Although wearing at times, the Buffingtons are grateful – the Abiqua Wind keeps the vines healthy throughout the growing season and rapidly dries the fruit after fall rains, allowing the clusters to hang longer with reduced risk of mold during the critical ripening period.
The Journey
shop The commercial winemaking journey began with the 2003 vintage, contracting custom crush at various wineries for three years then graduation to hands on winemaking for two years at another location and then leasing a small winery in 2009. Abiqua Wind Vineyard became a bonded winery in 2010 by converting a portion of the existing building on the property into a micro winery. All bottles are filled, corked, capped, boxed and sold by the Buffingtons.

“Our efforts and resources are primarily dedicated to the wines and vines; this is kindled by a deep and abiding passion for winegrowing and profound dedication to our legacy – family.”
Pete Buffington

Many of the wines are named to honor family members...
Each of Pete and Marcia's family members has contributed to the passion at Abiqua Wind Vineyard. Youngest son, Aaron, now immersing himself in the enterprise, contributes to every aspect from vine to bottle. His newborn daughter, Sophia Grace will 'grace' the new deliciously sweet pink Muscat. Two lovely grandchildren, born of their eldest son Charles, often enjoy time at the vineyard and their names, Caleb and Collier, reside on the bottles of Pinot Gris and Muscat. Tiffany, namesake of the dessert Gewürztraminer "Sweet Tiffany" is their only daughter and mother of two more lovely grandchildren, Isaac and Chloe, who adorn the bottles of the Pinot Noir and Muller Thurgau. Gloria Anne, Pete's mother and matriarch of the family is honored on the off-dry Gewürztraminer.
